Fluent wording can still alter an obligation
Legal translation must preserve relationships between parties, conditions and the consequences described by the source. Words expressing obligation, discretion, exceptions and time limits need particular attention. Making a sentence sound smoother is not an adequate reason to change who must act or when. Translator explanations should be clearly separated from the document’s own wording.
Linguistic accuracy is not the same as reviewing whether the underlying terms are advisable or enforceable. If you need risk advice or changes to contractual rights, commission legal review separately. A translation certificate cannot repair a defective source agreement or guarantee a legal outcome.
Fix the document version before starting
Where several drafts exist, identify the version being used and its complete attachments. If a bilingual agreement specifies a controlling language, reproduce that provision accurately. Do not invent one on the assumption that an overseas recipient would prefer it. Check that amendments and incorporated schedules are included in the set.
Compare company names, identifiers, dates, signatories and cross-references before finalisation. If the source refers to an appendix that has not been supplied, flag the omission. Reconstructing missing terms or tables is not translation. A final document should remain traceable to the actual materials reviewed.
Handle terms that do not map neatly across legal systems
A familiar English legal term can carry a different scope from the Thai source concept. Choose wording in context and maintain consistency across the agreement. When the intended meaning is unclear, raise the issue with the responsible adviser instead of hiding uncertainty behind an impressive-sounding equivalent.
Illustrative example, not a client outcome: a defined term in the main agreement is translated differently in an appendix, suggesting two distinct concepts. A glossary drawn from that specific document can help reviewers find the inconsistency. It does not require claiming an unverified company accreditation or pretending that one term list suits every agreement.
Read USCIS translation certification as a specific requirement
The USCIS Policy Manual states that a foreign-language document submitted in support of a benefit request must be accompanied by a full English translation. The translator must certify that it is complete and accurate and that they are competent to translate into English from the source language. A summary is not an acceptable substitute under that instruction.
That requirement should not be extrapolated to every court, embassy or application. It does not show that USCIS has accredited a particular translation company. Witnessing a signature and certifying translation accuracy answer different questions; check any additional recipient instructions before choosing the certificate.
Court submissions require case-specific confirmation
For Thai court use, ask the lawyer handling the case or the court office which parts must be translated, what certification is required and which source documents must accompany the translation. Do not assume a single certified-translation label guarantees acceptance by all courts or determines the evidential weight of a document.
This review does not verify every current procedural rule or case category, so it does not assert a universal court requirement. The Court of Justice website is a starting point for official contact and guidance, not proof of one blanket translation rule. A document prepared for one recipient may need different preparation for another.
Inspect delivery and obtain a scoped quotation
Check parties, figures, currencies, dates, numbering, defined terms and attachments before dispatch. If the source contains an error, distinguish that issue from a translation error rather than silently rewriting the source’s meaning. Ensure that the certification and delivered file refer to the same version.
Send materials you are authorised to share with the recipient instructions and request a quotation from staff. Company service prices are not displayed. No unverified ISO company credential, universal acceptance promise or fixed completion time is made here. Complexity and any separate legal-review work must be assessed from the actual documents.
