Our internal QA describes the Death Certificate as a "high-density, low-tolerance" file: a handful of lines, dozens of facts, zero room for the translator to be creative. Thai-numeral Buddhist-era dates (๒๕๖๗) must be rendered in English numerals AND converted to Common Era on the same line; missing either half of that pair is the single fastest way to lose an MFA submission slot.

If repatriating a body, additional documents (cremation/embalming certificate, no-objection from embassy) are also required — we coordinate the full pack.

Our English desk maintains a glossary reconciled against:

Because the English reviewer at the receiving end matches against the same glossary our QA already applied, the typical Death Certificate submission is a verification exercise rather than a contested review.

The translation desk targets a two-working-day ceiling for this pair, with rush windows compressing it to four hours where the destination accepts a same-day filing. Adding MFA legalisation extends the total to 4–7 working days. Embassy attestation adds another 3–10 working days depending on the destination.

Almost every rejection of a Death Certificate we are asked to fix afterwards comes back to one of these five patterns:

The receiving English authority will usually request one or more of the following alongside your translated Death Certificate; we'll email a destination-specific checklist once we know your target country.

• Re-marriage of surviving spouse — typically also needs your passport bio page and a recent photo.

Hague Apostille is the norm across the EU, but Thai-issued documents still need the MFA+embassy chain because Thailand is not yet a Hague signatory — we explain this in a covering letter accepted by every EU registry we work with.

For the Death Certificate specifically, our English desk pays particular attention to:

• Officer titles. Registrar, Chief District Officer and District Officer are kept distinct, mapped to whichever term the destination registry uses internally.
• Dates & calendars. The Thai Buddhist year (พ.ศ.) must be converted to the Common Era; we provide both formats side-by-side.
• Name transliteration. English authorities check the translated name against your passport — any mismatch is grounds for rejection.
• Official seals & stamps. Thai stamps and signatures are described in the target language so overseas officers can verify authenticity.
• Form codes. The Thai form code "ทร.4" is preserved verbatim in the translation header.

Operationally the workflow is a queue of eight gates; the case manager owns the queue and you receive a notification at each transition:

1. Document intake. Send us a high-resolution PDF/photo of the original Death Certificate. We verify it is a current Amphur or court-issued copy.

These are the working definitions our English desk applies, drawn from the MFA handbook and the embassy's published guidance:

• Sworn translator / ผู้แปลสาบาน — translator officially registered with a foreign court or ministry; relevant for English in some EU jurisdictions.
• Embassy attestation / รับรองสถานทูต — the English embassy in Bangkok validates the Thai MFA stamp.
• Certified translation / คำแปลรับรอง — translation accompanied by a signed declaration of accuracy; required by MFA.
• MFA legalisation / รับรองกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ — the Department of Consular Affairs authenticates the translator's seal; mandatory for most overseas use.
• Apostille — single-step alternative to MFA+embassy for Hague Convention members (Thailand: not a signatory yet → MFA route applies).
• Notarisation / รับรองโนตารี — a Notarial Services Attorney certifies the translator's signature or the copy; required by some English authorities.
• Transliteration — converting Thai script names into English characters; must match the spelling in your passport.
